This is a bit of a confronting topic but if you get constipation and you also get acne, then it’s worth understanding its connection and how you can potentially heal your skin through healing your digestive issue.
We all know that constipation can cause acne simply by toxic matter being reintroduced back into the body (and therefore sometimes being eliminated via the skin). But what is not often know is the potential reabsorption of estrogen back into the body which can then create hormonal acne.
Our body eliminates excess estrogens through the bowel. So when our fecal matter sits in the body for longer than is healthy, this estrogenic component can be reabsorbed back into the body causing potential estrogen dominance – which is one of the root causes of hormonal acne.
If you have acne that is on your forehead or cheeks, and not on your jaw line, chin or neck, then it’s unlikely that your acne is an estrogen dominance issue. If however you have acne that is in a very hormonal area (lower face and neck), then it will be good to get a hormone test done some months after treating your constipation issue to see if your hormones have returned back to a healthy range.
Either way, the root cause of the acne if you have constipation, whether it’s hormonal or not, will likely be that digestive issue. So the first step for you will be to heal your digestive system.
How To Heal Naturally From Constipation
The first and most obvious thing to do is to eat plenty of fibre. So if you don’t have much fibre in your diet then start eating more of it! This means lots of low sugar fresh fruits and vegetables, chia seeds, psyllium, whole gluten free grains, beans, berries, nuts, seeds and dried fruits.
You can also find plenty of great natural supplements for helping to regulate your digestive system at most good health food stores.
Or you may simply be dehydrated so make sure you’re drinking plenty of water each day. Aim for two litres of water per day. If this is a lot for you then build up each day until you’re drinking the two litres.
The energetic/emotional component
Honestly, this one seems really obvious — What are you trying to hold onto? What are you refusing to let go of? What part of you is stuck in the past?
Your mantra when working on healing your chronic constipation could be something like “Let go, Let go, Let go”. Anything that you can do to work towards processing old emotions and ideas, old boyfriends, old energy, old thought patters… let it all go.
Here are some things you can start doing right now:
- Have a big clean out of your house. Look at every item and ask yourself what energy that object is holding around it. If it reminds you of a bad story or situation then get rid of it! Only keep things in your procession that make you feel love or feel joy.
- Get everything said that you want to say. For every person in your life that you wish you could have or did say something to that you’re holding in, either write it down in a letter or record it on a voice recorder. Then read the letter or listen to the voice recording and trash or delete what you’ve said. Just make sure that you really, really say everything without any judgement towards yourself.
Also keep your eyes and ears open for opportunities for new healing modalities that cross your path. It may be that a friend tells you about a great practitioner that they want to, or you stumble across a flyer for a healer that you feel good about. Set the intention to Let Go and see what turns up.
Just like our acne, we want to work with our digestive issue both physically and emotionally. Try the treatment suggestions in this article, give it some time and allow your body to heal. You may just find that your acne heals along with it.
