Pregnant & Nursing Mothers

When we’re pregnant our progesterone levels rise and remain high throughout the pregnancy until about 24 hours after giving birth. Our prolactin also increases on conception, and remains high until we stop breastfeeding.

If you’re pregnant or nursing then you need to be careful with the treatment advice outlined in this website. There are certain treatments that are not safe for the baby.

I have written a modified treatment plan specifically for pregnant or nursing mothers. You can get a copy of the treatments in this book:

Hi! I know my acne is hormonal because my back and face get perfect when I am on BCP. But I am curious why during my two pregnancies my back and face got very clear too!!! Which hormone is causing me my terrible acne??? I don’t want to use BCP anymore or getting pregnant again for control my acne!

Hi Jessica, it could be progesterone, or it could be an androgen, or it could be both.

Hi Fran, I finally hopped online to see what sort of new insight I could find about clearing up my skin. I am a 30 year old mom of a 2 yr old, who is very active, eats a balanced & healthy whole foods diet, feels generally good, sleeps well, has a healthy weight, and so on..BUT I am still struggling with acne. I went on birth control at the age of 16 to help with my acne, and went on it again after having my son. Fast forward to the present, Ive been off ‘the pill’ for 6 months with hope of getting pregnant again. I have decided Id like to ditch ‘the pill’ forever after my child bearing years, as I want my body to be a naturally functioning system, but I want clear skin! Since going off recently, my cystic acne has gotten progressively worse, I have white heads around my jaw and neck etc. When I was pregnant, my skin was horrible, the worst its ever been. I feel as though I produce more sebum than I should, maybe sensitive to progesterone?–its just a mess. So, as I patiently await a positive pregnancy test, each cycle brings more skin problems.. any thoughts on what could help me?
